Turkish Newspapers Confess: It Was Us
After facing what they described (presumably in Turkish) as “one of the most difficult editorial decisions a newspaper can make,” Turkish newspaper Vatan published pictures today of Mehmet Ozdilek trying to trip a Swiss player as they ran off the pitch on Wednesday. In other words, the Turks started it - Benjamin Huggel was merely retaliating, which apparently has somehow rendered him blameless.
Joining Vatan in this national catharsis were a whole bunch of other newspapers, all of which published the incriminating photos. I don’t really understand this wave of self-flagellation, but it’s a nice addition to this whole mess. I just wish I could find the damn pictures online. Has anyone else seen them?
Also, when are we going to hear from the players on this? I want people (apart from Blatter, I mean) making self-righteous fools of themselves, dammit, and I want it now!
