Bolton Keeping Tabs On Fowler For Summer
Despite the player himself publicly stating how much he wants to stay at Liverpool, Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has thrown his cloth cap in the ring to try and woo Robbie Fowler to the Reebok Stadium if his second spell at Anfield is cut short in the summer.
Fowler fits perfectly the Sam Allardyce identikit for half of his signings in that he’s experienced at the top level, slightly past his best but could, in the right surroundings and with Big Sam’s backing, re-emerge as a force to be reckoned with in that UEFA Cup qualifying “league within a league” in the Premiership.
Anyone can tell that Fowler is desperate to stay at Liverpool but if Rafa Benitez finds some money to spend he may well find himself the odd man out (how disheartening when your only competition is Peter Crouch, a Fernando Morientes who is a shadow of his Madrid self and Djibril Cisse!).
I’ve always liked Fowler as a player and was pleased for him personally when he went back to the club he so obviously loves for another shot at getting things right. Money can’t buy everything and for the man reputed to be the largest private landlord in Britain, he may decide that another year on the books of Liverpool would be worth a slight drop in what he takes home at the end of the week.

I, too, would love to see him stay on. If nothing else he seems to be a man who loves his club… even if it did take a prodigal spell to remember this fact.

As good as he is and as much as he wants to stay at Liverpool, he’d bring an element to Bolton they haven’t had yet. That’d be fun to see.

I think Brookster’s right that it would mean a change of tactics for Big Sam and Bolton if they did manage to snap up Fowler because he is so different to what they have already. No more 451, what would Sam do?!

After reading Rafa Benitez’s comments about Robbie Fowler this morning, maybe Bolton will get the chance they are looking for after all:

Oy! The dance of words! I just wish people would say what they mean and mean what they say.
