Brazil Trainer: Ronaldo Overweight. Who’d Have Thought It?
So Brazil’s physical fitness trainer has let it slip that Ronaldo weighed in at a scales busting 14 stone 11 lbs when he joined up with the Brazil World Cup squad and even is tipping the scales at over 14 stone. Hardly a revelation I know but it raises serious questions as to why he has been allowed to maintain his starting place in the Brazil side when he is so obviously out of condition.
Not since my younger days have I had the slim build of a professional footballer and to sit here in my present physical condition of being around the same height as Ronaldo and weighing a few lbs less than him I;m astounded he has the capacity to run around a football pitch at all. Obviously he’s a professional footballer so his fitness levels will be much higher than mine but I know that carrying a bit of extra weight isn’t easy when you’re trying to compete in any sport and especially not at the very pinnacle of the professional game.
Parreira needs to ask some serious questions of his big name striker as to why he has allowed himself to reach such a playing weight at the end of a domestic season, injuries are not an excuse because if he was so badly injured to put on a stone or two in weight over the season then he shouldn’t be playing in the World Cup at all.
I’m getting tired of talking about Ronaldo and his apparent disinterest in the professional game these days. Sponsors may have a hand in deciding who plays for Brazil but for a dedicated follower of their version of the beautiful game I can’t support the actions of a man who shows so little respect for himself and his country as to turn up to a World Cup in this shape nor the man who continues to play him despite his lack of interest and fitness.
Ronaldo and Carlos Alberto Parreira, hang your heads in shame.

“Not since my younger days have I had the slim build of a professional footballer” !!!!!
Not since your young days have you had a slim build, true enough, but you looked about as close to a professional footballer back then as I did!
Still, Ronaldo’s looking a lot more lively tonight, just scored and took Pele’s record!

Cheeky. If I’d been about 7 inches taller I’d have been very close to the look of Peter Crouch as you well know ;-)
Thanks for pointing out that my little pep talk here gave Ronaldo the necessary ammunition to score two great goals and equal Gerd Muller’s record of 14 World Cup finals goals.
I’m glad someone was listening anyway…
