Defoe out, new wonderkid in, the Tottenham Hokey Cokey is Newcastle United’s gain
Tottenham haven’t scored in their last five games, so surely they need to be adding to their strike force not weakening it? On the face of it selling Defoe to Newcastle seems like madness, especially if the money is being used to fund the purchase of yet another midfielder.
But on the other hand, Defoe’s recent form has caused him many late nights in the cowfields practicing his banjo swings, all to no avail, so maybe £10m for the goalless wonder is a bargain?
And it could be said that Spurs main problem is the service from the midfield, rather than the strike force, so maybe buying a new midfielder makes sense? “Modesty” Blaise (Matuidi) from Troyes, the midfield wonderkid everyone is talking about could be the answer to all Spurs striking woes, and as he’s been given the “wonderkid” tag then he must be good!
But stepping back for one minute, why would Newcastle want to pay £10m for a washed up striker. Clearly if it were Souness in charge you’d expect them to pay silly money for old rope, but this is Roeder, who apart from having a thing for waving to his own fans, is also thought to be a good judge when it comes to players. So maybe he thinks that Defoe is still a good player and one who would benefit from getting good service from the midfield?
If Roeder is right, does this mean that Jol is guilty selling off the family silver, as he did with Carrick, in order to pay for his dabbles into the transfer market? Or is Jol just trying to find the final piece of the jigsaw… whilst Spurs go to pieces in the box?

Seeing as how you can’t even spell ‘Defoe’ correctly, I’m not sure anyone will read the rest of this tripe.
Washed up Striker? Defoe needs a run of games to produce his best football, and 32 goals in two seasons (considering one of those was his poorest in terms of goals to games) is better than most.

How do you expect to be taken seriously when you can’t spell Defoe?

You should post under the name “Vinegar Tits” the washed up blogger who pours scorn on everybody. It would help if you could spell his name .You seem to forget DeFoe scored twice for England recently. He is better than Martins and Ameobi. But why would NUFC buy him when he is the same type of player as Owen who will probably return quicker than expected.

Ok, I admit, I can’t spell dafoe and therefore that makes the whole article invalid …to those who are anally retentive

I agree It is not the spelling of the name that makes the article invalid, Its just the anally retentive writer!!

Anally retentive? It normally helps when someone is writing a whole article around one player that they actually spell their name correctly! It’s called research which is what quality journalism is all about! Then again that clearly rules you out.

So Jol wanted to sell Carrick did him ??
I think all real spurs fans know Carrick wanted to go and Jol could do nothing other than be left with a unhappy player who would leave in 2 years for nowt !!

Totally pointless article. You are obviously one of those people that believes everything on Newsnow. Your article is based on pure speculation, which is the same rubbish which was being spouted about 3 months ago when the transfer window was open and nothing came of it. You then go on to slate both player and manager for something which is clearly untrue given that the next transfer window doesn’t open for 3 months. Please stop wasting your time and go and play with the traffic.

It’s nice to see that you have actually improved your spelling on the back of our “literary criticism”. Keep up the good work!

Defoe has been very poor for us for a long time, 10 million would be a result, his movement and awareness are terrible

Where do you get your ‘facts’ from? Or is it your opinion that we are planning to flog Defoe and buy a mmidfielder with that money?

Just a quickie: Carrick was sold because HE WANTED TO GO. We did NOT need to fund for summer spending spree with his sale, as we already had a bumper amount of cash in from A) running the club in a financially sound manner, B) the Puma deal C) the obscenely huge Mansion deal (look it up), D) offloading other players.
Totally true.
So, in order to avoid being laughed at, I humbly suggest you do some research about any given subject you care to toss your opinions about on, or get called out.

Kym - just a quickie back at you - Carrick did not say “I am going”, there was an opportunity for him to go and Spurs cashed in on it. They did not HAVE to sell him because he was going to go on strike (or score an own goal a la Gallas), and even Paul Robertson came out and said it was a mistake to sell him.
The reason they decided to sell him was for the cash, pure and simple, and the only reason they wanted the cash was for funds to buy new players.
Don’t delude yourself, its only Chelsea who can afford to keep spending and maintain a huge wage bill, all other clubs have to balance their books!

If Newcastle will spend 7 million on Boumsong and 17 million on Owen, then I think 10 mill would be a good deal for them. Defoe (a before e after c, etc…) is a quality striker - Owen is out for the entire season - Jol doesn’t seem to rate him - I say it’s good business all around.

Some facts:
Jol did NOT cash in, he did NOT want Carrick to go.
Levy did cash in, and I can’t blame him, it was good business.
Spurs have balanced their spending over the last 2-3 years and spent NOTHING in the transfer market.
Carrick wanted to go, he supports ManU.
Newcastle have won nothing since the 1950’s.
Newcastle were getting 5000 home crowds in the second tier not so long ago, how have they got ‘the best support’?
This is a shit article with no facts in it.

cheevers - funny you should talk about no facts and shit, you’re full of both - What the fuck has Newcastle’s crowd got to do with this article? But following on from your bumper book of cheevers facts, Newcastle’s lowest ever post war gate was 16,000 back in 1980, whereas Spurs was 6,000 - maybe you should go back and read the article again, but try taking your head out of your arse next time

Defoe is simply shit, keane shits all over him. sell defoe get money. prefer to sell him to pompy though, not scumcastle.
Blaise is nothing special at all. just because one press article writes “he is a special talent” you all jump the band wagon and suddendly pretend you know everything about this kid and claim he will save spurs. before making claims, go and actually see who he is, and how he plays! u idiot!
Next of all, our midfield, although wobbly and unbalanced, is actually creating plenty, our forwards are just over rated. mido is not special, defoe just isnt consistant.
Laughing at Barcodes
Sep 27, 2006 at 9:14 am
We’re probably offering Defoe for £10m - but Barcodes are insisting that they pay us £15m. That’s the way it works up there - Mickey Mouse FC
I will laugh for a week - 168 hours solid when I see on the Sky Sports News Ticker “Newcastle United FC file for bankrupcy”
And I hope Owen never plays again too - kiss goodbye to £17m PMSL No, make that over £20m with the signing-on fee, other “enticements” and subsequent astronomical wages.
NUFC – a club with no history whatsoever, always destined to be the butt of all football fans jokes. Spend as much as you want – you are cursed to forever be rubbish. Over half a century of misery and failure – and before that only the Crème Egg Cup to ‘celebrate’
Nevermind.

Sack the juggler - typical Newcastle supporter, try coming back to planet earth, Newcastle are NOT as perfect as you lot think, try reading factual history, not the history you dream of - ‘With crowds previously below 10,000, Keegan captivated everyone on Tyneside and United stormed into the top division’.
Your article may have nothing to do with Newcastle’s crowd, but it does have something to do with their delusional state.
It also has nothing to do with news, we all like reading speculation, but this is story precedes Newcastle’s last trophy.

why do some Spurs fans go on about other club’s last trophy? I know Tottenham have got a great history and I can even remember as far back as last trophy won, by when’s the next one coming? And by the way, who said I was a Toon fan?
