Dwight Yorke Has A Pop At Souness
Dwight Yorke has reopened his simmering feud with former manager Graeme Souness, claiming that Souness is an arrogant manager who doesn’t make enough of an effort to get along with his best players.
Yorke says Souness almost went out of his way to antagonise the best players in his squad while the pair were at Blackburn Rovers, a situation that resulted in a training ground punch up between the two during a six a side match and then carried over into the staff canteen at their Brockhall training centre back in 2004.
While Souness is an easy target for backstabbers these days after getting the elbow from Newcastle United, it’s becoming a recurring theme where the former Liverpool hard man has found it hard to make the transition to manager despite having been in charge of some of Europe’s biggest clubs over the last twenty years.
Enforcing discipline and inviting some passion into training is one thing but two footed challenges on your own players and punch ups in the club canteen aren’t really good morale boosters and with his lack of man management skills affecting how his teams are performing on the pitch I can’t see any way Souness can make it back into the football management business.
I’m all too ready to be proven wrong though now that Sunderland are managerless and they did appoint Howard Wilkinson a couple of years ago. When Bob Murray and his mates are on the hunt then anything seems possible.
