Good-Bye, Gazza
You know that “Back in English Football!” job Paul Gascoigne took just over a month ago at Kettering Town? Well, it’s over. After exactly 39 days, Gazza was fired because new owner Imraan Ladak felt that he was “unable to carry out his duties.” With anyone else, you’d wonder what happened. With Gazza, however, we all know what happened: he was drinking. Again. On the job. According to Ladak, the England legend turned up for work drunk more than once, and was “under the influence of alcohol before, during and after several first-team games and training sessions.” At least one of those occasions was apparently capture by Sky cameras when, during a pitchside interview about a game called off because of dangerous conditions, Gazza slurred his words and was clearly out of sorts. In addition, he allegedly engaged in a bit of drunk dialing to members of the team last night, telling them not to turn up for training.
I mean, this is really, really sad - as it always is when Gazza stumbles. At some point, though, the nation’s sympathy is going to dry up, and the man is just going to be pathetic - and yeah, I realize we might just have reached that point.
