Heavyweights Line Up For Madrid Job
Real Madrid president Fernando Martin has drawn up his hitlist of potential managers to take over the ailing Spanish giants in the summer and the list reads like a veritable Who’s Who of European football managers.
With a list comprising of Sven Goran Eriksson, Rafael Benitez, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Marcello Lippi, Carlo Ancelotti and Fabio Capello, Martin and Madrid are obviously serious about reinvigorating the club and they don’t seem to care who they upset as they make public a wishlist with some very reputable clubs’ managers on it.
Quite what the presidents and owners of clubs such as Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus think about another club publicly announcing their intentions to pursue their coach is probably easily guessed at though from that list one name stands out amongst the others as a more easily attainable goal.
Sven Goran Eriksson won’t need to be bought out of a contract in the summer as his England deal is being terminated and with a reputation as one of European football’s great thinkers and master tacticians (however undeserved), Eriksson could well find himself planting his feet firmly under the table of the King of Spain’s favourite club before the start of next season.
With Real Madrid we have found there is often no rhyme or reason to their actions but with a summer of massive financial outlay ahead as they try to rebuild a squad overladen with ageing, expensive galacticos, a few million euros saved in compensation could go a long way.
