Horror Leg Break Means No World Cup For Djibril Cisse
While everyone watched and waited on news of Wayne Rooney’s metatarsal scan it was easy enoug to forget that there are a lot more players getting ready for their biggest tournament of their career and sometimes there are last minute hitches that can through a spanner in the works.
One such poor sod this time is Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse who has broken his tibia playing for France against China in a World Cup warmup game. It must be bad enough to break your leg and miss the World Cup but if it’s in a full blooded challenge then you can maybe square it off in your mind as just one of those things. Cisse, sadly for him, was just running the ball when his studs seemed to catch in the turf and down he went.
The video isn’t for the squemish I’ll admit but the camera angle shows what went on perfectly. I doubt Djibril will want to watch it today but while Wayne Rooney dances and bicycle kicks, I’m sure some of his other team-mates will look at the Cisse incident and thank whoever they thank that it wasn’t them.

Ugh! Is that the same one he broke last year? He could be done….

That was the left, last night’s was his right leg. I don’t know if that would be a comfort or a worry to him though. Would it be better to snap the same one twice or is it worse that he’s now done both of them?
One man who may be thankful in private is Sidney Govou who has got the callup to replace Cisse but personally it’s not the way I’d want to get my callup to the World Cup squad.
