Judas Quits Gooners

by Alan on July 9th, 2006

No surprise at the news coming from Highbury/Ashburton Grove direction yesterday that the most infamous Bosman transfer of all time, Sol “Judas” Campbell, has ended his contract with Arsenal one year early and decided to seek pastures new.

Things obviously haven’t been right for the player this season and as he grows older and loses the athletic power that made him his name in the first place, coupled with the onset of more injuries, he just wasn’t up to the standard of playing for a top Premiership competitor anymore and simply had to go.

The apparent mental problems Campbell had been suffering mid season (see his half time walkout against West Ham) must also have played a part and he now looks to be heading abroad wit hFenerbahce favourites for his signature.

I take no pleasure in the demise of any man but I can’t ever bring myself to feel sympathy for this man who committed the ultimate betrayal on Tottenham Hotspur, our club and our fans. The 30 pieces of silver comparison was never more apt in football and while Sol received a hell of a lot more than merely 30 pieces of silver, he lost a piece of his soul and the love and respect of the fans who idolised him and trusted him at White Hart Lane. Even the Gooners fans knew not to trust him after that and they never warmed to him despite their crowing over his defection.

New starts abroad are one thing but the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the world Sulzeer, some problems you just can’t run away from.

23 opinions for Judas Quits Gooners

Ahhh so your dislike of Lampard becomes clear now, you’re a Spurs fan! And to think Roman was close to buying you lot before spotting Chelsea. However I’d be surprised if you would have allowed his money anywhere near your club, as there is no way you want/need money to win anything… You will do it the ‘honest’ way no buying the title for you, in fact no title at all!

“Even the Gooners fans knew not to trust him” - this is just not true. For better for for worse he moved to Arsenal to achieve more in his career. And he did just that. No need to erroneously speak for Arsenal fans.

    DONT TALK NONSENSE

ALL TRUE GOONERS LOVED SOL TO BITS EVEN THROUGH HIS DIFFICULT SPELL THIS YEAR

TO SUGGEST GOONER FANS ‘never warmed to him’ IS LUDICROUS

Chelsea fans denying they bought they title and Gooners having a Judas lovefest. What a way to start a Sunday morning…

Us Gooners love Sol. You are talking crap.

He has had 5 fantastic years with us with many medals and an unbeaten season (thanks mainly to Sol and Kolo).

The only player you lot have ever produced good enough to be a gooner!

    Your articles are a joke.

What a cutting and insightful comment Rob. Is it my grammar, my diction, my relentless campaign against the Emperor’s New Clothes of modern day football, what is it Rob? Please Rob, I just gotta know.

You’re an idiot. OH NO - HE LOST THE LOVE AND RESPECT OF A LOAD OF UGLY MUTANTS FROM NORTH LONDON WHO SPEND ALL DAY BITTERLY CUSSING THEIR SUPERIOR RIVALS. What a shame!

this is exactly why I moderate comments on my site…

Chelsea fans denying they bought they title and Gooners having a Judas lovefest. What a way to start a Sunday morning…

    LMAO..

Alan, on a serious note, your opinion on Sol is a bit biased. Gunners did like Sol…not as much they liked Vieira or how they are over-protective about Henry and Fabregas, but they did like him.

Anyway, heard you guys were buying another striker. Who might that be?

    Jul 9, 2006 at 11:56 am

Mr Lasgane: I’m very sorry my friend but I have no idea what you just typed and can’t decipher whether you’re backing me up or lining up against me. Can I suggest some adult literacy classes?

Ahmed: I only screen some really vile comments because I enjoy the banter with these ones. I don’t pretend to be some impartial football observer, my Spurs colours are worn proudly everywhere I write because I think we should all be honest in our writing.

No word on the new striker, at least it’s not Heskey!

How else were you ever going to see a Tottenham player lift the title at that skanky little pub ground in your lifetime?
Frankly, you should give thanks to the almighty lord, you ungrateful little b*stard.
We loved him the minute he signed for us, and he’s got five medals to take with him on his next adventure which, let’s face it, he had f**k all chance of winning with your shower of sh*te.

what complete crap. Sol Campbell was immense for Arsenal and won 5 trophies during 5 years. We loved him , end of.
We wish him the best of luck on his new challenge and thank him for his contribution to the cause.

Oh, and Tom: You’re obviously too young to remember the day the Tiny Totts SOLD the mighty Pat Jennings.
    No excuses there.

    30 pieces of silver?

Think you’ll find he moved for medals. Like the championship and FA Cup medals he won at Highbury whilst the Spuds won, what was it again, oh yes the record for the least games by a top flight club in a season since the League Cup started!

Jeez, I bet he wishes he stayed!!!

As for Gooners not warming to him - absolute piffle. About as much reality in that as a Spuds Champions League campaign…

  • mr lasgane

Sol’s five years at the club have been reasonably successful - He moved from perennial losers Spurs in search of silverware, and he leaves with a nice haul: Two Premiership winners medals, three F.A. Cup final victories, and a number of crucial goals - One of which could have been the defining moment in the club’s history had we held on to our 1-0 lead in Paris just a few weeks ago. Arsene Wenger padi tribute by saying: “I would like to thank Sol for his tremendous contribution. His commitment, stature and strength of character have served us remarkably well, both individually and as a team player who captained the side” - Who could argue with that?

Sol - We wish him the best of luck

  • Frank Lampard's grotesque love handles
    Jul 9, 2006 at 12:53 pm

You Spuds are such IDIOTS. You do this all the time, you invent situations and then try to deconstruct them. To say you don’t feel for Sol is your opinion, fair enough. But to try and speak for Arsenal fans completely discredits you. Arsenal fans loved Sol because he gave his all for us and was a fantastic player (as he was for you). I’m sure Sol doesn’t want sympathy from people who hung an effigy of him (I mean, I can understand you were very embarassed, but how pathetic was that?) Don’t try and speak on behalf of Arsenal fans, it’s such a playground tactic.

What a bitter pathetic bunch you Goons really are. Celebrating the contribution of a lowlife of a human being who lied to his friends and employers just so he could take the transfer fee they were due and deposit it in his own bank account. Frankly you lot are welcome to any scumbag who thinks about doing this to my club.

As for the Spurs baiting: not working chaps but I see you’ve all got nicely wound up today over something a Yid wrote on a football blog. Hope you’re proud of your responses.

What’s that sound? Is it Freddie Mercury singing about a Spanish city with a European Cup winning football team? I think it is, time for me to move on.

Mr Lasgane, you’re still making no sense at all mate, copying and pasting words from someone who can speak the lingo doesn’t make up for having no point to your comments whatsoever. Please try again.

Great post on From the Lane summing up the whole Campbell situation:

“I genuinely feel sorry for Sol….

…quite a refreshing beer with a bit of lime in it but has to share its name with the biggest cnut in the universe.”

    Say no more!

Eh? Still more illiterate nonsense from the Goons. If you lot spent more time in school and less time tarmacing driveways like the Woolwich tinkers you are maybe you could make a coherent sentence or two or, God forbid, make your comments have a legitimate point.

I\’m closing comments on this post because some of you lot can\’t seem to have a discussion without resorting to increasingly foulmouthed diatribes with absolutely no mention of the original topic.

You made your bed, you lie in it.
