Did the Linesman beat Liverpool or was it Bolton?

by Sack the Juggler on October 2nd, 2006

When Everton were denied a victory, and a return to the top of the Premiership, by a dodgy linesman’s (I can’t call them assistant refs, because they don’t assist!) decision at Newcastle, no doubt many Liverpool fans were laughing up their sleeves, but today when Liverpool went behind to yet another dodgy linesman decision, they may have belatedly reflected that he who laughs last, laughs longest.

And unlike Everton who were able to recover to at least claim a point, Liverpool went further behind to a Campo header and threw away all three points.

I say threw away, because in truth, Liverpool should never really gone behind, even from the dodgy decision.  Yes it was a sweet strike by Gary Speed, but what was Reina doing diving the wrong way?  He saw the ball heading to his right and dived left! Time to give Dudek another chance maybe?

Bolton’s second goal was icing on the cake, but really Liverpool, for all their possession and all their long range efforts, didn’t look confident of scoring.  Although the linesman didn’t help, its clear that their away jinx continues.

Premiership challengers? You’re having a laugh!

every true liverpool fan knows that we have little chance to win the league this time round, but we will in due time… a cup double (FA/League) would be nice… as long as we are top 4 at the end of the season then i’m happy

Andy, to be fair, I think that’s what most fans think of Liverpool chances this season, but Benitez said in the Summer that Liverpool would be challenging for the title this season, so kind of set a rod for his own back.

6 points behind with 7 games gone. This is far from over.

You’re a sensationalist aren’t you, Sack the Juggler. Six games gone and you’ve already given a title verdict. We’re six points behind the leaders with 31 games to go, so maybe you’re being a bit hasty here. If you’d asked 2 months ago how the league table would look, I wonder if you’d have said 4 of the teams in the top 6 now would be there.

I’m sure even you know a 6 point lead can be chalked off in a month.
