Londis, people pass on gossip about most clubs and most players, but usually its just about their sexual persuasion or that they gamble or maybe drink too much. The people passing the gossip on are usually fans who have overheard or seen something, other players or even ex-managers.
I dont pass normally pass on this gossip as it can’t be backed up, or (especially in the case of ex-managers) I suspect that a large part of it is sour grapes. Also if the gossip is about something that is not harming anyone (such as if the player is gay) then I’ll usually ignore that too.
Even when its about drugs I usually have second thoughts about passing it on. If I know the guy has a drugs problem then its probably that the club does too and is trying to do something about it.
In these two cases, I decided to pass the info on because in gossip 1 the player was out of order. If he’s got a problem keep it within the club, don’t tell anyone who’ll listen on a Saturday night in Liverpool. This particlar person really does think he’s bigger than the club but he’s a fool and he’s damaging it, so I think his club should be made aware of it.
In the second case I have held off for a long time. This story has been doing the rounds for a while, and there are pictures and allegedly video with one of the major tabloids. They held off partly because of the World Cup, but also because the player was trying to make a go of it. But its gotten worse and it looks like its affecting his performance so they are talking about going to print. I decided to air it partly because its raging around Liverpool at the moment and its more public than most news stories. And also because no-one seems to be doing anything about it, other than the player involved, and it looks like he’s had enough.
It may also partly explain Rafa’s rotation policy and the recent performance of the club. I’ll admit I felt uncomfortable about releasing it as its very personal, but as its already in the public domain and its about to get more public then I decided there was no real point in holding back.

It is the anti sociable behavior of some Liverpool fans who think they have the divine rights to open their foul mouth and threw up regurgitated filth which has disgusted genuine football fans all over the country. Jumping in with both feet… Talking about stoning the ambulance that carted poor old Alan ‘Badge Kisser’ Smith to hospital. It was indeed a terrible injury, and we all felt for the guy, as he was obviously in deep distress. And yes, a minority of LFC fans behaved in, at best, a poor manner. However, the player himself has repeatedly thanked the staff and fans of LFC for the way they treated him that day. He dismissed the incident out of hand. And every club in the world has a few bad apples, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Moving on, and talking about behaviour (by the way, it’s ‘anti-social’, not anti-sociable) - I happened to be at the Fulham v Chelsea game last season. As a neutral, I was absolutely disgusted with the behaviour of the Chelsea fans at the final whistle. Storming the pitch, ripping up seats, charging the home supporters etc. Behaviour that could certainly have caused injury or worse to the innocent families seated at the edge of the pitch. And all because your beloved Chelsea lost the game…
Behaving like thugs, eh? Well, people in glass houses, me old mucker…

The strategic capability of the club depends on the Chelsea brand increasing its profile, the fact that its in London, and …wait for it……its a football club! I’m dazzled by this insight! The strategic capability of Chelsea right now, has next to nothing to do with its brand. The fact you’re in London and can afford to put up a large billbord on a motorway driving into London sayin ‘welcome to the home of Chelsea’, is nothing new and the impact on the club for being where it is means little, and even less if you weren’t winning the premiereship. And the fact that everyone around the world loves football means little more whilst you’re winning the premiereship you might get to shift a few more shirts.
All of the above would count for absolutely nothing should Abramovich withdraw his funds at any stage - cos there aren’t too many business men and women who’d be interested in buying a business which hold money like a collander holds water.
Just my opinion of course.
