Manchester United Considers American Sponsorship Deal

by Jyle on January 9th, 2008

Manchester United In a move to become the richest soccer club in the world, Manchester United considers making a limited sponsorship deal with its brands in the United States and China. This move is significant and ground breaking because currently British football clubs sponsorship deal are not made on an individual basis.

Currently Real Madrid ranks number one in the richest team department but that could soon change when Manchester United officially announces their income which is expected to top £245 million. Not exactly loose change.

The problem with all of this, and I have heard soccer fans complain) is that it makes world soccer look like a business rather than a sport. I mean ya money makes the world go round but what exactly is Manchester United doing with all of that money? Does everybody have to sell their souls to the United States to make the biggest profits?

Of course it’s a business. There are many teams in the English professional ranks, struggling to keep their heads above water, who would love a deal like this. More power to United.

I agree, Jyle. It seems like everyone’s got to depend on selling themselves to the states for money. I don’t think it should be that way. If you’re from Manchester why ask for money from the States or China? Stick to your own country.
