Marco van Basten Bicycle Kick for Ajax
Watching clips like this of Van Basten scoring sublime goals almost brings a tear to the eye when you consider that he had to retire prematurely at the age of 29 with an ankle injury after a few injury ravaged seasons just as he was hitting his peak.
Arguably one of the greatest strikers of all time, Van Basten was a scoring legend with Ajax, AC Milan and Holland and given a couple more years at his peak I believe he would have done enough to prove that he was the best of all time. Van Basten had everything and as part of Milan’s Dutch trio alongside Ruud Gullit and Frank Rijkaard he cemented his position as Europe’s top striker at the very top level, winning the European Championships with Holland in 1988 and three European Player of the Year awards, as well as back to back European Cups.
It’s great to see him back in the spotlight now as coach of the Dutch national team but for me he’ll always be the bicycle kicking, goal scoring genius of Ajax, Milan and Holland.

Glad you’re enjoying them Cory, I’m loving going through some of the ones available to pick out the best and bring back some memories for me and, as you’ve shown, create some new ones for others.
It’s letting me bring a bit of positivity to the blog too rather than taking thinly veiled potshots at some of European football’s big names;-)
