Newcastle United’s Emre - Guilty or Innocent?
So far the facts are stacking up against Emre. He was guesturing for a red card against Leon Osman, and was then pushed away by some of the Everton players, as they were turning back to the referee they stopped and turned back to Emre, clearly incensed by something he said.
He may have said something about their mothers (a la Materazzi), but from those players who reacted, it would appear to have been a racist remark. This is further backed up by players comments to the referee about why they were going mental, and also by comments from the Everton fans immediately behind the goal (although if they heard him from there then surely the referee would have heard him too).
The only real person defending Emre is his agent (so no vested interest there then…), but to be honest, as a witness, his evidences is shakier than Shakin Steven’s with a hangover.
To say that Emre who has already spent a season in the Premiership can’t speak English (other than to ask for a Red Card and a sending off of course….) is a bit like Bill Clinton saying he didn’t have sex with Monica, but then he really hammers the nail into Emre’s coffin by saying that Emre never had any problems with racist comments when he was in Turkey, one of the most openly racist football associations in Europe….
Emre and his agent don’t come out of this very well, but neither does the FA. Despite all the claims and counter claims doing the rounds, they are sticking the head in the sand and saying, we’re not going to investigate it until someone makes a complaint - “Let’s Kick Racism out of Football”? …more like “Let’s not get involved”……

I think you’ll find it was Sack The Juggler, a previous editor, who wrote that post Turk 4 Life so maybe you should watch your comments.
Any chance of an apology?

Turk 4 Life - I agree with your comments about La Liga, its also appalling, but just because UEFA and other football associates feel that it is not an issue, it doesn’t mean that the English FA should do the same. Racism is racism, whether its from the cockney fan you heard or from Emre on the pitch - Kick it out!

Its abit harsh to say that only his agent has a vested interest. You don’t mention anywhere that both the everton fans and the everton players had a vested interest of getting the guy into trouble at the time, and possibly sent off. I’m not saying that he either did or didn’t saything untoward, but if your going to analyse something you should do so without any bias

I did express my doubts that the Everton fans heard anything, as if they did then surely so would have the referee. I agree that the Everton players have a vested interest too, but why would they use racism as a reason to send him off, he was in enough trouble by trying to get the player booked which should be an automatic yellow card and he would have been off.

I believe there were monkey-type noises coming from the home fans. No mention of those?

JMO - If any Everton fans were making monkey noises then they must be very stupid indeed, especially as the best players on the day included Lescott, Yobo and Howard. However, whilst stupidity and bigotry often go together, I’m inclined to discount this rumour, if only because other than from yourself there were indeed “no mention of those” by anyone else…..

I also heard about the Everton fans making the monkey noises. Both on a website and from a mate who was there.
Scum.

Stu - who is scum? all the Everton fans or just those making the noises? Either way, you appear to agree that Emre is also scum for being a racist…

i have no opinion on the Emre matter, you can’t see / hear what he says, i just think it’s hypocritical when Everton complain yet the monkey chanting was apparantly plain to hear. While i’m by no means defending Emre, i kind of expected it, he’s been brought up in two cultures and two countries where it’s rife.
Of course i was talking about the scum chanting. I’d have just called the whole lot of Everton fans twats ;)

:)) Stu - good response mate - and yes its a good point, Everton like many other clubs still has a “hard core” of racists who ocassionally make themselves heard so maybe its time the clubs and the FA took a harder stance on the fans.

its all well and good saying the FA should take a “harder stance on the fans” but there is 30 000 fans in a ground and if officials etc dont see ‘fans’ throw a coin at a fourth official then how do they hold an individual accountable? I think that the regulatory authorities shouldn’t listen to the Everton fans, the Everton supporters but the individual himeself who was on allegedly on the receiving end.
