Premiership On Standby As Inter Sign Zlatan
Watch out for the repercussions in the Premiership of Inter Milan’s latest piece of transfer business as they’ve managed to agree a fee with Juventus to sign their Swedish striking star Zlatan Ibrahaimovic for around £16.5m.
After signing Hernan Crespo on a two year loan deal from Chelsea earlier in the week, Inter are now looking well stocked in attacking options and with the newspapers and agents flagrantly touting their players around before the new season starts it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a departure from Stadio Giuseppe Meazza over the next week or two with England and the Premiership being the most likely destination.
Brazilian star Adriano had a poor season last year by his own high standards and having failed to set the world alight at the World Cup in Germany, like the rest of his Samba teammates, he looks to be the highest profile possible departure from Inter’s ranks. manchester United are desperate for a big name, free scoring striker to replace Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Adriano fits the bill. Strong, skilful and with a fine eye for goal he should have all of the necessary traits to make an impact in the Premiership and is just enough of a different kind of striker to complement Wayne Rooney. The Glazer family will have to dig deep to prise him away from Inter though, £30m is a big gamble on a South American coming to England but one United have to do if they have any title ambitions this season at all.
Also being hawked around the Premiership is Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins. Plagued by stories questioning his age throughout his young career, Martins is supposedly interesting Tottenham (who’ve denied any interest already) and Newcastle United who are in dire need of a replacement for Michael Owen who could miss a large part of the season following his knee injury in the World Cup. Martins has the frightening pace that once characterised Owen’s game but he isn’t a prolific goalscorer in the Owen mould in the way that Newcastle may need him to be. His ability to play off the left hand side of midfield would also be redundant with Damien Duff now occupying that berth although with Duff’s injury record he may find a regular spot there anyway.
Either way it’ll be interesting over the next week to see just how the Juventus punishment leading to their relegation leading to Zlatan’s transfer request leading to his move to Inter impacts the Premiership. Either way there will be a lot of money needed to persuade Inter to release either player but if any clubs have it to spend, it’s Manchester United or Newcastle.

Must be honest I think Adriano is excellent, can’t see why Inter want to get rid of him. He’s fast, strong and skillful and far better than Ibrahamovich. I saw Zlatan play in the last European championship in Portugal, Sweden beat Bulgaria 5-0 and he looked fantastic - but he’s just looked completely hopeless for club and country since then.
