Shevchenko Regrets Kissing Chelsea Badge
Is there anything more cringeworthy than a modern day footballer who has just arrived at a new club on upwards of £100,000 wages a week kissing the shirt after scoring on his first proper game as if he was a lifelong “dyed in the wool” fan who grew up with nothing but the dream of playing for that club? Apart from Arsene Wenger’s selective myopia I really can’t think of any single gesture that turns my stomach in quite the same way.
Andriy Shevchenko went instantly down in my estimation after scoring a typically fine goal in the Community Shield at the weekend but kissing his brand new Chelsea shirt and thankfully just stopped short of saying he always dreamed of playing alongside the great Mark Stein and Paul Furlong when he was growing up in Kiev without any creature comforts except his lifelong love of Chopper Harris and the pain of Chelsea’s 1967 FA Cup Final defeat to Spurs.
It seems like I wasn’t the only one who turned their nose up at his blatant attempt to ingratiate himself with his new paymasters and the opinions of the people who really mattered to him have seemed to bring him back to earth with a bump. The AC Milan fans who idolised Shevchenko were angered by his shirt kissing and made their point very well known leading to a quick retraction and apology from Ukraine’s finest and the promise that although their relationship has ended he’ll always remember them fondly while he struts around Europe with his new younger, richer model.
They say you never forget yur first love and sadly I think we’ve seen Andriy Shevchenko show that he’s still as tightly bound to his first love as he ever was - the English pound may have replaced the Euro on his paycheque but in kissing that shirt he showed everyone that it doesn’t matter what shirt he’s wearing, if the owners keep the cheques coming, Andriy’ll keep on loving them.

Hey whats wrong with Mark Stein? His goals saved us from relegation to Division 3!!! He is a (minor) legend among those who saw him play for us - also he scored one of the great goals against west ham at upton park from an acute angle a la Van Basten. Shevy would have appreciated him. I’ll give you Furlong who was promoted above his level - but still gave it his all.

I think you need to get a life if you get so upset and judgmental by such trivial things like this!! And Sheva did not kiss the badge. He simply lifted the front of his shirt and kissed it during that moment of madness all goalscorers go through after they have scored a goal.

Get a life you dull dull man.I’d imagine you have never scored a goal so who cares what he did. From what you can see he seems like a humble guy who is loyal (hence only two clubs in his career so far, does’nt cheat or dive and is an admirable role model)
So it is just typical of bitter C**ts like yourself that sum up the country we now live in.Looking for the bad or negative aspect in everything in life.F**k off and get a life you absolute w*nker.Top top striker so enjoy watching a master of his art.Get over it, top of the league and here to stay.
You must be gooner or manc.

I assume it’s difficult to type a proper response without resorting to childish insults when your knuckles are dragging on the ground Blue man.
Only two clubs - three top clubs now, Dynamo Kiev (top club in his country), AC Milan and now Chelsea. Not exactly a hardship staying loyal to one of the world’s biggest and best paying clubs now is it? And if he’s so loyal then why did he jump for Roman’s wage increase this summer? Loyalty is Matt le Tissier staying at Southampton for his whole career. Don’t mistake Shevchenko’s career stops for loyalty.
Top of the league? The league hasn’t started mate and the way I seen it, Liverpool were the ones lifting the trophy at the weekend, not Chelsea. Deluded? Did you know there was a club at Chelsea before Abramovich? Do you remember Mark Stein and Paul Furlong (hint: they used to play for a certain blue team in London before Bates ran your club into the ground and Roman made it his plaything).
Gooner or manc? I’ve never been so insulted. The real clue is in the post above, maybe if you could read you could pick it out.

Mountain out of a mole hill from what I can see, and as someone already has pointed out he didnt actually kiss the badge.
What we should be talking about is can Chelsea start the new season successfully with no Makelelelelelelele or left back. As a gooner I hope they do get a left back and end up with a player who really has no morals or loyalty when it comes to playing for a club, Ashley Cun…Cole

HAHAHA! If you actually watch his celebration, he kisses the shirt…NOT the badge
I dont really see a problem with a new player kisssing a shirt; I mean, he has to wear it for a while so he may as well become acquainted with it
Anyway, he will save Chelskis season and make sure they scrape over the line to a 3rd title, with Liverpool in 2nd.
ps…arent you gonna replace Duff? And what happened to Kenyons view of Chelsea breaking even within 5 years? He cant say that then take a 12 mill lose on one player (who shouldnt have been allowed to leave)

Apologies, I did say he kissed the badge in the headline but got it right throughout the post when I said he kissed the shirt. It was obviously the shirt.
The badge or shirt doesn’t matter though, the gesture stands and so does my repulsion.

If the company I work for paid me over 100,000 pounds a week for doing what I enjoy I’d kiss anything…. Even the woman who works in the personnel dept. You should see her. She looks like a bulldog chewing a wasp. As for Shevchenko, he used to do it at Milan all the time and it was just a question of habit. He probably did it without thinking. I dunno what all the fuss is about.

what a genuius you are.The point is that in your sad little life you have nothing better to do than wet yourself over anything Chelsea related.Your one of those people that has become bitter and twisted and jumps on anything you read in the press and nod your head wholeheartedly.Firstly he has played for two clubs (yes we are his third), secondly your judging someone on kissing their shirt when he has just scored for his new club (can you imagine what it is like to score a goal? i doubt your thinking clearly what your doing)
what is annoying is the sneering “he’s gone down in my estimation”.I’m sure he has a high opinion of you.You clearly know nothing about football and prove yourself when you go on about him moving for the money.Do you really think Milans billionaire owner could’nt match the wages we were offering him to hold onto their most important player?
anyway i must run and put some ice on my knuckles as they hurt from dragging on the floor.lol
Personally i could’nt care who you support, as long as its not Chelsea i’m happy.
Oh also Zzzzzzzzzz about the club before Abramovich.Pretty poor if you ask me.No reason or need to justify how long i’ve been going to you.lets just say your way off the mark.
Personally love the fact that we have shevchenko after years of shite football, crap players and so on.
He should be celebrated not castigated.I bet your onbe of those people that sits there and slags off the team all game.Fans we don’t need at the bridge.

This sounds like a typical bitter attack on Chelsea by one of the pretenders to the crown. I’m not a chelsea fan, but I’ve enjoyed the banter with their fans, and who can forget the famous “Ou est Cantona?” that they sung at the leeds fans when he joined the Mancs?
I think the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man U forget that they have spent many hundreds of millions over the last 20 years building their clubs up into what would otherwise be an unassailable position, alls Chelsea are doing is catching up very quickly.
Good luck to them, at least their fans are a good laugh and remember what its like to be a real fan instead of a glory hunter.

Blue Man. You say,
“So it is just typical of bitter C**ts like yourself that sum up the country we now live in.Looking for the bad or negative aspect in everything in life.F**k off and get a life you absolute w*nker.Top top striker so enjoy watching a master of his art.Get over it, top of the league and here to stay.”
I find this statement ironic. You hypocritically condemn this guy for looking for the bad or negative aspect in life; when you’ve done just that.

Having been a Chelsea fan since 1961 i think i can justifiably not be called a ‘new blue’ or one of those jumping on the bandwago. In fact I really wonder if these people truly exist given that the club does have a huge fanbase. As with all clubs, (yes, even Liverpool’s attendances drop when they’re not doing so well)there is now a seemingly bigger fan base.
I must just say I totally agree with the point that Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal fans seem to find it reprehensible that another club has money to spend, and in many ways spends it better.
Does anyone even think of Roman Abramovich as the man who allowed Damien Duff to join a club for half of what Liverpool were offering because Duffer wanted to go to Newcastle? Imagine David Dein doing that? Or Malcolm Glazer or David Moores (or the other faceless people behind Liverpool)?
Getting to the original point Andriy Shevchenko is doing what just about anyone in their right mind would do. He is capitalising on his ability by earning as much money as he can for his skills, and at the same time giving his family a good and secure future. So showing his belief in the club by kissing the shirt in thanks, is such a ‘reprehensible’ action? Nobody at Chelsea would dispute that Sheva loved Milan, just as nobody at Milan would dispute that he loved Kiev before, as each have given him the chance to improve his life for himself and his family.
My first job was delivering newspapers, perhaps I am disloyal as I cold-heartedly left the newsagents just to look for more money!
