The Krafts for Liverpool?
Rather suddenly, a lot of talk has erupted about US businessman Robert Kraft and family buying themselves a chunk of Liverpool. Not only is Kraft himself talking about the club in glowing terms and holding meetings with Rick Parry (at a Revs game, no less, in full view of about 75,000 people), but his possible involvement is actually being applauded - and by a former Liverpool player!
Steve Nichol, who currently manages the incredibly boring New England Revolution, a Kraft-owned squad, is speaking out in favor of a Kraft bid. Without mentioning any names, Nichol praises the Krafts as a group who “…Are interested in the team and everybody in the team, the whole staff and their families. It is not a question of some guy who sits and watches from his throne, they are involved in all the right ways.” Gee, I wonder if he’s got someone in mind with that last bit. (And at this very moment, Malcolm Glazer is looking at photos of himself being burned in effigy and wondering where the hell the flaming Krafts are.)
There’s a strange lack of response to the rumors yet at most Liverpool fan sites; it’ll be interesting to see how the fan base responds if this actually goes ahead. Based just on the Glazer experience, it clearly takes a special sort of American to be welcomed into the world of English football - the Krafts at least have a football background to help them out, but will it be enough?
