World Cup 2006 Group D Preview: Mexico - Players To Watch
Barcelona’s Rafael Marquez comes to the World Cup finals at the peak of his confidence as a European Champion’s League winner and will be the bedrock that Mexico’s defence sets it’s foundations upon. Playing at centre back or in a defensive midfield holding role, Marquez is strong in the air and in the tackle and will be quick to use his range of passing to get the side moving from defence to attack.
Jared Borgetti has been limited to mainly substitute appearances for his English Premiership club Bolton Wanderers this season but Mexico’s record international goal scorer will still be in top shape for firing the goals his country will need at the finals. 14 goals in World Cup qualifying have set the scene and after bagging two at the last World Cup finals in 2002, Borgetti will be hungry to add a few more to his tally at the very top level of international football.
