As from 2018, the hosting of the FIFA World Cup™ will cease to be rotated. Under the chairmanship of President Joseph S. Blatter, the FIFA Executive Committee today - 29 October 2007 - unanimously passed a decision to abandon the principle (originally introduced in the year 2000) of rotating the men’s World Cup from continent to continent.

This comes as good news for England and Brazil. England wanted the rotation to take effect after 2014 so that they could be given another go at playing host once again. If all goes well, Brazil (whose nation has won the cup 5 times, more than any other country) on the other hand will have the chance to finally be able to host their national sport in 2014 and Brazil for 2018 when the rotation rule take effect.
